[COE Seminar] 2023/06/06: "Molecular Engineering of Insulin" - Prof. Danny Hung-Chieh Chou, the Department of Pediatrics, Stanford University

11120E500100 College of Engineering Seminar

TOPIC
▸ Molecular Engineering of Insulin

Abstract
❝ Insulin is a life-saving drug for millions of people with diabetes. Still, complications of diabetes led to pre-mature death due to the fact that insulin treatment is still not ideal for glucose control. My lab is interested in using protein engineering techniques to incorporate novel properties to insulin so that better glucose control can be achieved for people with diabetes. In this seminar, I will discuss our efforts in using insights from structural biology to guide new insulin designs. These efforts lead to new knowledge on how insulin activates insulin receptor as well as new therapeutic candidates for diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
