[COE Seminar] 2025/11/18: "Microfluidics and Nanofluidics Engineering from Basic Science to Social Implementation" - Prof. Chihchen Chen, Institute of NanoEngineering and MicroSystems, National Tsing Hua University

11410E500100 Seminar

TOPIC
▸ Microfluidics and Nanofluidics Engineering from Basic Science to Social Implementation

❝ Microfluidic technology is at the forefront of personalized medicine, offering unparalleled control over fluid manipulation in both time and space. This precision enables gentler, faster, and more consistent sample handling, ultimately yielding more accurate and higher-quality information. Yet diagnosis is only part of the equation—microfluidics also holds promise for enabling personalized therapeutic interventions. Our team has established robust international collaborations with Lund University (Sweden), the Kanagawa Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (Japan), and industry partners including Daicel and IMT Taiwan. In this lecture, I will present our ongoing projects, which span a range of innovative applications: a microfluidic immunoaffinity platform for isolating extracellular vesicles, a femtoliter-scale interface for mass spectrometry sampling, and large-scale integration of microfluidic devices for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and chemicals. ❞

SPEAKER
▸ Prof. Chihchen Chen
▸ Institute of NanoEngineering and MicroSystems, Department of Power Mechanical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University

Dr. Chen received her B.S. (1995) and M.S. (1997) degrees in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, and her Ph.D. (2006) from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, with dual specializations in Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. From 2006 to 2009, she served as a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Chen is currently a faculty member at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU). Her research interests include microfluidics, nanofluidics, bioMEMS, and the large-scale parallelization of microfluidic systems.
